Thidiazuron is a substituted urea plant growth regulator, mainly used in cotton and used as a defoliant in cotton planting. After thidiazuron is absorbed by the leaves of the cotton plant, it can promote the natural formation of the separation tissue between the petiole and the stem as soon as possible and cause the leaves to fall, which is beneficial to mechanical cotton harvesting and can advance the cotton harvest by about 10 days, helping to improve the cotton grade. It has strong cytokinin activity at high concentrations and can induce plant cell division and promote callus formation. It can promote plant growth at low concentrations, preserve flowers and fruits, accelerate fruit development and increase yield. When used on beans, soybeans, peanuts and other crops, it will significantly inhibit growth, thereby increasing crop yields.

Thidiazuron vs Ethylene

Advantages of ethephon:

The ripening effect of ethephon is better, but the defoliation effect is worse! When used on cotton, it can quickly cause the cotton bolls to crack and the leaves to lose water and dry up.

Disadvantages of ethephon:

1. The ripening effect of ethephon is good, but the defoliation effect is poor. It causes the leaves to "wither but not fall", especially when mechanical harvesting is used, it seriously pollutes cotton.

2. While ethephon accelerates ripening, cotton plants quickly lose water and die, and the young bolls on the top of the cotton also die, causing a serious reduction in cotton production.

3. Cotton does not spin well. When cotton bolls crack, it is easy to form shells, which reduces the harvesting efficiency. Especially during mechanical harvesting, it is easy to harvest incompletely, causing secondary harvesting and increasing harvesting costs.

4. Ethephon will also affect the length of cotton fibers, reduce cotton varieties, and easily form dead cotton.

Advantages of Thidiazuron:

1. After using thidiazuron, it can cause the cotton plant itself to produce abscisic acid and ethylene, which will lead to the formation of an abscission layer between the petiole and the cotton plant, causing the cotton leaves to fall off on their own.

4. Disadvantages of Thidiazuron:
